The Samsung PN42B450 42 Inch 720p Plasma HDTV is a best-selling plasma TV that has been garnering a lot press and reviews online these days; so,  I thought I would try to arrange for one these popular units to be brought in for a review, and was able to get one. Therefore, I am ready to get to it and give you the scoop on the Samsung PN42B450 Plasma TV.

The Pros

If have been reading my reviews, then you know that I really am impressed by the way Samsung makes the most of 720p technology; and how they don’t use1080p just to make their TVs more expensive to buy. Nevertheless, the Samsung PN42B450 42-Inch 720p Plasma HDTV is a great example of how good 720p can be. In fact, I have never seen another 42 inch plasma TV that can claim better picture quality than this one. I will continue to say, as I always have, that 1080p technology virtually does nothing in TVs smaller than 50 inches.

The picture quality of the PN42B450 is quite outstanding; and the colors are natural, true and rich. Contrast and resolution image tracing is superb as well, and hard-core gamers and fast action movie fans shouldn’t see any signs of ghosting or motion blurring. Just like in almost all plasma televisions, the PN42B450 displays black, white and gray shades of color flawlessly.

There are plenty of connection types and ports available, and you should easily be able to find a port on the TV for almost any device you wish to connect to it. Furthermore, the Samsung PN42B450 allows for use with your personal computer via a PC input port and USB compatibility.

The quality of the sound on the TV is very good; and the remote control is well designed and easy to use. In addition, the remote quickly finds and automatically configures almost any external peripheral.

The Cons

I could not find much wrong with this TV at all. But, it is a plasma TV; so, it does produce a lot of heat. Also, the TV is very heavy; so, if you are planning on wall mounting this TV, caution should be used. Also. Remember that Plasma TV’s love to consume more than their share of electricity.

Conclusion

This is a great plasma TV; the picture is there, the features are there and the price is right. Highly recommended.
