Low Price and Fantastic Picture – The Samsung PN42A400 42-Inch 720p Plasma HDTV

Introduction

Priced a little under $700, the Samsung PN42A400 42” 720P Plasma HDTV television is a tremendous value in a high quality plasma TV. Furthermore, there seem to be more and more outlets putting this particular model on sale by the day; so, I wanted to take a closer look and see what this little beauty really has to offer.

Features / Performance

As you might expect by its price, the Samsung PN42A400 doesn’t come with a whole lot in terms of features or extras, like some of the newer and more expensive Plasma TV models do; however, it does come with everything you really need for a great HD viewing experience. It has two HDMI ports, a PC port interface and it even supports USB as connection choices.

Although the Samsung PN42A400 42-Inch 720p Plasma HDTV doesn’t come with as many features as some other Samsung plasma TVs we have tested, its performance is more than adequate and actually very good for the price. Picture clarity and quality is excellent; furthermore, since it’s a plasma TV, blacks, whites and grays are rich and deep.

The Contrast ratio of 15,000:1 is more acceptable for most installations; in addition, the 5ms response time insures virtually no ghosting or motion blur with video games or fast action films. The PN42A400 does not support 1080P resolution technology, but it does an admirable job of maximizing the ability of the 720P protocol; however, on a TV of this size difference is virtually undetectable. The benefits of 1080P are not easily seen with screen sizes less than 50 inches.

The Samsung PN42A400 delivers adequate (but not outstanding) sound quality from its two integrated stereo speakers. The included swivel stand allows for easy adjustment of the viewing angle; furthermore, the TV does come with Samsung’s highly acclaimed QAM HDTV tuner technology, which supports major network HDTV programming without an additional cable box. The included remote control is durable and sturdy; but, it does not offer as many features as some of the newer Samsung remotes. Regardless, the remote control functions very well and it is able to be used with other external source devices.

Conclusion

The Samsung PN42A400 42-Inch 720p Plasma HDTV offers above average picture quality, connectivity and performance at a budget price. While the TV is not the most feature rich Samsung plasma TVs, it is very well-made; for those on a budget, is an excellent choice.

Best Sellers TV Review – The Samsung PN42B450 42-Inch 720p Plasma HDTV

Introduction

The Samsung PN42B450 42 Inch 720p Plasma HDTV is one of the most sought after midsized Plasma TVs on the market today, and it has been the subject of many favorable articles and reviews. So, I thought it was about time to bring it into the lab, and find out what’s hot, and what’s not with this Plasma TV. I have concluded all my tests and now want to share my findings with you.

The Pros

If you follow my reviews, then you may know that I really like the way Samsung always seems to make the most of 720p resolution technology in its LCD and Plasma TVs. Moreover, they don’t make a habit of using 1080p technology on smaller sized TVs simply to make them more expensive. The Samsung PN42B450 42 Inch 720p Plasma HDTV is another great example of this, and goes to show that there is virtually no difference in picture quality for 720p and 1080p TVs in this size range.

The Samsung PN42B450 has plenty of connection types and ports available, and you should have no problem finding a connection on the TV for any type of source device you need to connect. Also, the Samsung PN42B450 is easy to hook to your laptop or desktop personal computer with a PC input port and USB connection.

The picture quality of the PN42B450 is quite impressive; and the color reproduction is accurate and vibrant. The PN42B450’s contrast and resolution response is excellent as well, and hard-core gamers and fast action movie fans won’t have any problems with ghosting or motion blurring. And, as usual with most Plasma TVs, the PN42B450 displays black, white and gray colors to sheer perfection.

I was quite impressed with the sound of this TV as well, better than many in its size class and you may not need to use an external audio system to get adequate sound levels. The remote is well designed and simple to navigate and use. The remote also worked very well with various source devices.

The Cons

There is not much I don’t like about this TV. It does put out some heat, but then all Plasma TVs do. The TV is also a little heavier than I normally like (that may be considered a good thing by some though). So, if you are planning on wall-mounting this TV, make sure to use some strong anchor bolts. Finally, like most plasma TVs – it loves to eat large amounts of electricity. But, your power company will appreciate the extra revenue.

Conclusion

I really like this TV. Great Picture and very attractive price are definite pluses. Don’t leave it on all night though, can get costly with the added electricity costs. Nevertheless, I highly recommend it.

Samsung 50 inch plasma tv

The Samsung PN50B860 50-Inch 1080P Plasma HDTV

This TV is like Ultra Thin! I mean, it’s so thin – almost doesn’t exist. With a cabinet depth of only 1.2 measly inches, the PN50B860 is the thinnest Plasma TV available on the market.

Features / Performance

Besides the fact that the thinnest TV I have ever tested, this is the best 50 inch Plasma TV I have ever had the privilege of laying my eyes on. In addition, it has more cool features, more connections and more functionality than any other TV I’ve ever tested. In fact there just too many, I can’t possibly tell you about them all; so, I’ve picked out a few of the major features, as well as a few of my favorites, to share with you in our review today.

Samsung’s high end mode LCD and Plasma TVs ship with a a library of static content that includes high-resolution artwork and pictures, recipes, games, and children’s stories, and the PN50B860 has this feature as well. Samsung’s innovative InfoLink feature, also included with the Samsung PN50B860, lets you view customizable weather, news and other information directly on the TV via an Internet connection.

Performance on the Samsung PN50B860 50 inch flat Plasma HDTV is like OMG freakin’ awesome! I was watching ‘Star Wars Episode 1’ HD-DVD and I promise you that it looked better on this TV than it did in the theatre. The PN50B860 displaying of colors is simply superb. There is zero ghosting and no blur whatsoever. I really don’t know what else to say about the performance of this TV. There are MAYBE two, possibly three, very, very expensive plasma TVs that offers a picture as good as the one displayed by this TV. No other in this price range comes close.

Samsung’s new Medi 2.0 component for displays Internet content on your television; it pulls content from Yahoo, Flickr and other online sites that support widgets. Furthermore, you can even access pictures, video and other media located on your PC directly from your TV, using just the remote. That Samsung can offer this TV for under $2000 is simply unreal.

Conclusion

The Samsung PN50B860 – 50″ LCD TV is a truly outstanding value in a large format Plasma television. Its high performance; tons of features and an incredibly thin and sleek design make it a truly remarkable bargain at street prices of under $2000.
