Features / Performance
Samsung TVs are known for being loaded with neat and useful features, and the LN46B550 is certainly no exception. With a laundry list of available capabilities and features, I can’t cover them all here; however, I will tell you about the most important ones.
This 46 inch HDTV LCD has a connection for anything that you could possibly imagine or connect to it. In fact, once you have connected all of your peripheral toys, there will still plenty of available ports available for future use. HDMI, USB, component video, the PC — you name it; this TV can connect to it.
The LN46B550 supports major network HDTV broadcasts out-of-the-box and doesn’t require you to purchase a separate cable box to enjoy local channels in HDTV. The unit supports enhanced game mode, which offers a vivid, rocket like gaming experience. Also, Samsung’s Red Touch of Color produces an ambient light that enhances the viewing experience.
Picture display quality on this television is simply amazing. Actually “breathtaking” comes to mind, when watching HDTV broadcasts or your favorite Blu-Ray DVD movie. The picture is that good. With a 70,000:1 contrast ratio, and a very fast 6ms response time, your favorite fast action games and videos will look better than they ever have. Absolutely no, I mean none, ghosting or motion blurring is detectable.
The remote control is well laid out, durably made and feels very substantial to the touch. In addition, the remote quickly recognizes and configures virtually any external peripheral device.
The Bad
Had the sound quality on the LN46B550 been just slightly better, I would have been tempted to call this the perfect LCD HDTV television. I was a little bit disappointed, considering how well Samsung televisions usually sound. Besides that, this TV is flawless.
Final Thoughts
Connect an external audio system to this TV, and you will have one amazing home theater experience. The Samsung LN46B550 TV is reasonably priced, and picture performance is as good as I’ve ever seen. I highly recommend this HDTV.
