Best Value LCD TVs - The Samsung LN46B630 46-Inch 1080p 120Hz LCD HDTV with Red Touch of Color
Introduction
Just recently I reviewed the Samsung LN46B650 LCD TV. The LN46B650 is also a 46 inch LCD and the model directly above the LN46B630, which is the unit under review in this issue. If you read the review, you probably remember how much I really enjoyed that particular TV. So, I want to tell you that the LN46B630 and the LN46B650 have many more common similarities than differences. While the Samsung LN46B630 is slightly less advanced than its older sibling, it is a remarkable LCD TV in its own right.
Features / Performance
The LN46B630 and the LN46B650 are identical when it comes to included features; for example, the LN46B630 is 46 inch TV, has the identical 1080p and 120Hz resolution and screen refresh rate technology and it also comes with Samsung’s Red Touch of Color technology – just like the LN46B650. It offers the same healthy abundance of connection choices, the very same Internet content options via Ethernet, and it too also comes supplied with a very useful USB flash drive. But, they are not quite identical twins in all areas.
Take the screen finish for instance; the LN46B630 version of the LCD TV uses a screen with a matte finish instead of a glossy screen like the one on the LN46B650. Additionally, the stated performance levels for the 630 are just ever so slightly lower than those represented for the LN46B650. But in terms of performance, it is almost impossible to discern between the two. The LN46B630 has an 80,000:1 contrast ratio and a 4ms response time. But, I couldn’t tell any difference at all.
How, they are two different TVs; while not a lot actually separates them, there are distinct differences to consider. If you usually watch TV in the dark, the LN46B650 model is the version for you; but, if you’re a daytime television fan or watch TV in a room with a lot light, then the 630 version is a much better choice. In short, a Matte finish looks better in a room with a lot of light, and with the 650, vice-versa. Another thing to consider is that the 650 version costs about $400 more than the 630 version
Conclusion
If you can’t afford to spend the extra $400 that the 650 version costs or you’re a nighttime TV fan, then the LN46B630 is for you. For me, saving $400 makes this TV look more attractive to me, by the minute.
