High- End HDTV Reviews – The Samsung LN37B550 37-Inch 1080p LCD HDTV with Red Touch of Color
Introduction
The Samsung LN37B550 LCD HDTV is a superior quality LCD television that is currently widely sought by home theater enthusiasts. This Samsung TV provides premium features and performance at a premium price. Today we investigate if this TV lives up to the hype.
Features / Performance
I won’t spend a whole lot of time covering the features and performance of the Samsung LN37B550; because as far as those two areas are concerned, I don’t think you can find anything better in a 37 inch television.
The hype is true; it has incredible contrast ratio and response time, phenomenal picture clarity and depth, incredible color display and the list goes on and on. Performance is incredible. Picture quality is amazing and there is no ghosting or image blurring. There are no faults to be found in performance.
Likewise, it has every feature you will ever need in a TV of this size. It has more connection types than you need, produces great sound and connects to every external peripheral imaginable. So again, there are no shortcomings in terms of features.
But a few thoughts…
This LCD HDTV is amazing; it truly is. But as good as it is, I am having a hard time finding a reason that justifies buying this TV. It sounds absurd, I know. But follow my reasoning for a minute, if you would. This television is simply too expensive, when you consider the fact that Samsung offers 720p 37 inch (and 42 inch) LCD models, that offer comparable features and performance, at much lower prices.
If you’ve read even a few of my reviews, then you know my stance on 1080p resolution technology. I find 1080P to be utterly useless in smaller sized LCD televisions (and plasma TVs too in fact); you just can’t tell the difference between 720p and 1080p picture quality on a 37 inch television. If you can, then your eyes are not of this world; moreover I would chalk it up to wishful thinking more than objective viewing.
Considering these facts, I simply can’t justify the more than $300 price difference between the 1080p and the 720p versions of this television. But, if knowing that you have 1080P on your LCD TV, makes you comfortable or happy; then by all means, knock yourself out and buy one.
