Introduction
From Samsung’s famous SyncMaster line of monitor displays, we welcome the 2232GW, and it is definitely one of the best-looking monitors they have released. The Samsung 2232GW’s glossy black cabinet is sleek and just a little curvy and will liven up even the most humble of desktops.
Features / Performance
The Samsung SyncMaster 2232GW has one DVI and one analog port for connections. I was a little disappointed in the lack of connections actually; a monitor at this price should offer more multimedia connectivity, like an HDMI port, USB port or a card reader. Cables for both connections (DVI and VGA) are included in the box, along with a CD that has the user manual and Samsung’s MagicTune software, which lets you make image adjustments using your keyboard and mouse instead of the on-screen display buttons.
Performance was good, but not outstanding, and colors were accurately displayed. The monitor does a great job with blacks and darker shades of gray, but is a little weak in displaying differences in the lighter shades of gray. At times, different shades of very light gray are hard to distinguish from one another.
On the front of the panel is a circular blue LED power switch on the lower right corner of the bezel and is the only visible button on the front of the panel. There five -marked function buttons located underneath the lower bezel and they are used to navigate the on-screen menu. The buttons also act as hot keys for adjusting the brightness, using the Auto Adjust function, and accessing the MagicBright menu.
This monitor has Dynamic Contrast technology, and enabling makes picture very bright as well as provide much darker black levels. However, there is a loss of highlight detail that is very noticeable when using the contrast feature at its highest levels. This features makes watching movies more enjoyable, but probably would not be useful for those who are into photo editing. The Dynamic Contrast function does create a very vivid and detailed viewing experience for games and movies though.
The Samsung SyncMaster 2232GW does a fantastic job at displaying text, and was able to crisply and plainly display text even at the smallest font sizes. There was no eye fatigue when viewing the monitor and the 2232GW provides excellent angle viewing.
Conclusion
The Samsung SyncMaster 2232GW is a very stylish and modern 22-inch monitor that will meet most needs of everyday computing and does very well with today’s 3D games. If you don’t need USB, Multimedia or a lot of extras, then the 2232GW is definitely worth a look.
